Is the USA’s draw with El Salvador at the World Cup qualifiers unexpected?

Gregg Berhalter’s team grabbed a point as they ended in a draw in their first qualifiers match against El Salvador.

It’s close to four years since the USA team lost out in Russia 2018 after failing to qualify giving their lose to Trinidad and Tobago.

The team started the qualifiers games in the absence of their star man Christian Pulisic and goalkeeper Zack Steffen, but even at that, have managed to secure a point for themselves.

From stats, it’s obvious that nine players in the USA starting line-up were making their first appearances in a World Cup qualifier, with DeAndre Yedlin and Tim Ream the only exceptions.

The draw result indeed, shocked the winning streak of USA side, however one point in the qualifiers is an advantage still.

The USA men soccer team have appeared in ten FIFA World Cups, including the first in 1930, where they reached the semi-finals. They’ve only won twice out of the 10 against England which was in 1934 and 1950. So of recent, they’ve got no much major winnings per ser.
