YouTuber Gabrielle Petito has been reported missing by her parents after weeks of failing to establish a contact with her.
Police are in search of clues to the young YouTubers whereabout following the return of the fiancé Brian Laundrie, alone on September 1st.
The couple had gone on a nomadic nationwide road trip in July, and were posting updates on social media.
In one of their updates on YouTube, which they titled: “Beginning Our Van Life Journey”, they filmed themselves smiling, kissing, and running on beaches. The eight minutes video which has been viewed over 600,000 times, also showed the loverbirds as they drove through California, Utah and other states in their 2012 Ford Transit van.
Also it was confirmed that on Aug. 19, Gabrielle and Brian shared a video of their cross-country road trip titled
Two weeks before Gabrielle Petito went missing, police in Utah were called to an incident involving the couple.
According to a police report, Officers found Gabrielle crying and complaining about her mental health. But no charges were filed.
Police have now seized the van they couple traveled in, and are processing it for clues.
From the information released by New York’s Suffolk County Police Department, Gabrielle’s parents reported her missing on the 11th day of September after they didn’t hear from her since the last week of August till the day they made the report.
NBC News also confirmed that Gabrielle’s mother, Nicole Schmidt, said that she last FaceTimed the 22-year-old on Aug. 24 and since then, has been receiving texts from her phone until Aug. 30.
On the whereabouts of the boyfriend, Brian, reports released by the police stated that Brian returned 10days before Gabrielle was reported missing, they also added that “As of now, Brian has not made himself available to be interviewed by investigators nor has he provided any helpful details,”
Gabrielle’s mother, Schmidt said she is unsure if something went wrong while they were on their cross country trip, she believes she could be somewhere “She seemed OK to me at the time, other than I don’t know where the relationship was going with the boyfriend.
“She could be alone somewhere. She could be stranded somewhere in the wilderness and she needs help,” Schmidt pleaded. “I hope everyone is looking for her.” She concluded.
Police has said that her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, 23, who has returned home, is a person of interest in the case, adding that “The lack of information from Brian is hindering this investigation. The answers will eventually come out.”
However, Brian’s Lawyer, Steve Bertolino, has gone ahead to defend his silence.
“In my experience, intimate partners are often the first person law enforcement focuses their attention on in cases like this and the warning that ‘any statement made will be used against you’ is true, regardless of whether my client had anything to do with Ms Petito’s disappearance.
“As such, on the advice of counsel Mr Laundrie is not speaking on this matter,” Mr Bertolino said.
