Katherine Heigl, who left hit ABC series Grey’s Anatomy in its sixth season in 2010 has revealed her reasons for the exit.

She said “I started a family, and it changed everything,”

“It changed my desire to work full-time. I went on family leave and just got to be a [mother], and it changed my whole perspective. That was really the turning point.

“So before I was due back, I spoke again to [show runner] Shonda [Rhimes] about wanting to leave. Then I waited at home until I was given the formal okay that I was off the show. The rumours that I refused to return were totally untrue.”

She also claimed that she was advised to balance both her career and motherhood, however it didn’t work out well.

Katherine played Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens in Grey’s Anatomy from 2005-2010

“[Shonda] wanted to try to figure out how I could do both [parenting and Grey’s], and I kind of wanted to do both. There wasn’t a great way to compromise the work schedule that didn’t negatively affect the crew or the cast,” she concluded.

The 42 year old Katherine is married to Josh Kelley, and shares daughters Adalaide, 14 and Nancy Leigh, 12, as well as son Joshua, 4, with him.

Katherine also a producer and former fashion model. She started her career as a child model with Wilhelmina Models before turning her attention to acting.

She made her film debut in That Night and later, appearing in My Father the Hero as well as Under Siege 2: Dark Territory.
