Late Monday afternoon, major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp suffered outage, and this has put most people in a very difficult situation, especially those whose businesses are social media powered.

Data from the website suggests that the outage is affecting user accounts across the world.

The media giant, has however, announced that they are “working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible”, and went ahead to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Twitter, however is still standing strong, and folks have gone on there to react to the unfortunate situation with Facebook and friends.

The error message on the webpage of Facebook Inc (FB.O) suggested that the issue is a problem with Domain Name System (DNS).

DNS is often compared to an address book or phone book for the internet, pointing web browsers to the computer system which serves the website they are looking for.

There are now speculations that Twitter is thinking of buying Facebook.

What this outage also mean is that users who use their Facebook credentials to log in to third-party apps like Pokémon Go, are also facing issues.

“If your game isn’t running as usual please note that there’s been an issue with Facebook login servers and the moment this gets fixed all will be back to normal,” puzzle game app Match Masters said on its Twitter account.
