Kanayo O. Kanayo, a veteran Nigerian actor has recently taken to his Instagram page to share his feelings over the award he received and the celebration that followed it.
He wrote: “It feels so great to be honoured and celebrated. Thanks for celebrating me when I am alive.
“Sun has risen and it will always shine. Thanks to Sun Newspaper, all my fans, friends, well-wishers and enemies alike.
“It is done, all for Nollywood.” he concluded.
Kanayo was amongst those who were honoured on Oct. 16 as he received the 2020 Sun Newspaper Nollywood Icon award for his excellent role delivery and iconic status.
Anayo Modestus Onyekwere (popularly known as Kanayo O. Kanayo, was born on March 1, 1962. He is a renowned Nigerian actor and lawyer. In 2006 he won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in the movie “Family Battle”.
Kanayo In 1992 made his debut movie appearance in the film Living in Bondage. He has starred in over 100 films. He was nominated in 2008 for African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in the movie “Across the Niger”.
His most recent movies are Up North and Living in Bondage: Breaking Free
Kanayo hails from Mbaise in Imo State, Nigeria. He is the second son and third child out of five children.
In 2011, his mother passed away. During the burial ceremony, A-list Nollywood actors came to pay their last respects.
Later that year, he contested for the chair of the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE of Imo State under the political party APGA but didn’t win. He then proceeded to try again in 2019 but lost to Mr Martins Emeka Chinedu who is also his Kinsman.
He is a graduate of Law from the University of Abuja. He also finished his Law School from the Abuja Law School located at Bwari, Abuja in the year 2020
He has featured in various Nollywood blockbuster movies which includes Lion Heart and Professor JOHNBULL where he portrayed the character of an intelligent and achieved educated man.
