Debra Messing, an American actress who is a close friend of Alec has defended him following the ugly incident which led to the untimely demise of the director of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Alec and Debra have had a long-running comedy series Will & Grace between 2005 and 2019.

Debra hit out at Benny Johnson who hosts US podcast The Benny Show after he tweeted: “BREAKING: Alec Baldwin kills person with gun, criminal investigation underway. This is the accurate headline fyi.”

Debra then came to the defence of her former co-star, replying: “It is absolutely NOT. A prop gun was handed to him . He used it in the scene.

“Then- a catastrophic event happened where Halnya Hutchins lost her life and Joel Souza was injured.”

She added: “I am praying for all of their families.”

She also retweeted well-wishes from Phil Nobile Jr., the editor of Fangoria, that read: “My thoughts are with Halyna Hutchins’ friends and family, and I’m hoping that Joel Souza and Alec Baldwin are with the ones they love and receiving the best care possible. What a horrible situation.”

Alec since the ugly incidence took place, has been cooperating with the police operatives in the investigation.

He broke silence yesterday as he released a statement about the incident. He wrote: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.

“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

The deceased family as was gathered, has been asking questions on what transpired and what happened as they seemed so confused.

A friend in Kiev, Ukraine, where Halyna grew up, told The Sun : “The family is grieving but at the same time they are asking and they will want answers. If someone made a mistake then they will have to pay.

“They just don’t understand how something dreadful like this could have happened when safety measures are supposed to be in place.

“They are also frantically trying to secure documents to get to the United States. Her mother does not have the correct paperwork.”
