Barcelona president, Joan LaPorte has refused to rule out possible returns of former club players Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta to the club, with the return of former right back Dani Alves and new head coach in the person of Xavier Hernandez.
Messi, Iniesta, Xavi and Alves played together during the days at Catalunya, winning many trophies together.
Xavier having been appointed as the head coach, didn’t waste time to announce the signing of former teammate Dani Alves, stressing the need for more experience to help him rebuild the club and get Barcelona back on track again.
The return of Alves has sparked the rumour for a possible return of two club legend in the persons of Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta. The former is obviously a huge part of Barcelona’s history, while the latter spent years as Xavi’s midfield partner-in-crime and is still plying his trade in Japan with Vissel Kobe.
The president when asked about these rumours, said that the door is wide open for such returns.
“It’s happened with Dani Alves, who has seen the situation and wanted to help. We’re grateful for the financial sacrifice he’s made. He wants to help us turn things around.
“I can’t rule it out,” Laporta said (via ESPN) during Alves’ presentation.
“I can’t predict the future of these two players Andres and Messi, yes they’re Barca greats and their return is possible but for now I can’t talk about them because they are under contract with another club.”
The newly signed player Alves was also asked about Messi, and he said that it wouldn’t be bad reuniting with his former teammate with whom he had a good relationship, and if possible he can persuade him to return.
“I would be glad been given a couple of hours to go find him,” he laughed, adding that Messi is the greatest I have ever seen in the game and having to find the great, whom you had a good relationship with.
“Yes he’s my good friend and I love him, and what’s going on now is a new process, which I would advise everyone to come back, yes I know I have been in so many places but there’s never been a place like here.”, he added in conclusion.
