Argentine Captain and Former FC Barcelona player, Lionel Messi, one of the world’s most consistent players over the years, has pointed out his favorites for the European most prestigious trophy.

The French Giant Paris Saint-Germain are among favourites to win this year’s UEFA champions league trophy, but the Argentine captain has said there’s a lot of fierce and scary competitions from other top European clubs for the Europe most prestigious trophy.

PSG having added a lot of football Legends to their super star squad, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Widjnaldum and Gianluigi Donnaruma, though results haven’t been as expected, they have been relentless in accepting defeat.

“Everyone says that we are the big favourites and I will not deny that we are one of the candidates on paper, but we still need to work on some things to be a really strong team,” Messi confessed to Marca.

“We still have to finish gelling as a team and we have the advantage of having some great players to achieve that, but we are not the only ones. Other teams are great candidates.

“The Champions League is a very difficult competition, that’s what makes it so beautiful and special. The best teams are there, but it is getting more and more complicated. Yes, we are one of the favourites, but not the only ones,” he continued.

“What can I say about Liverpool, they’re back now, back to the level of Liverpool that won the champions league 2019.

“There are many big teams who are capable of winning it, with the likes of Manchester city, Liverpool, Bayern Munich,ATM who are capable of putting up an upset in the game, you know UEFA champions league is among if not the most competitive tournament we’ve.”

When the Argentine was asked about his opinion on Spanish teams, he said that his former side FC Barcelona have a slimmer hope of winning compared to the two Madrid clubs still in the competition.

“As we always know Real Madrid are always a competitive club, so with athletico Madrid, they’ll keep fighting until the very end, they’re both two direct rivals, who have known the competition too well, and will always be there to frustrate you, even when losing.

I do know that my love for Barcelona has no bound, but at this stage they’re undergoing a reconstruction of the team,of which most are young. Today, I think there are better teams than Barcelona, but although they give that impression now, that does not mean that they will not be able to fight later because we must take into account the arrival of Xavi, the renewed illusions and the power to get some injured players back. They can keep growing and fighting till they get back to their glory days.

“For the last Spanish team sevilla, they’re in a tough and competitive group, which their hope of qualifying is still there but might be slim. They’re a competitive team.

“For me Spanish team are very competitive and strong, they’ve shown it in the Europa league and champions league too, winning back to back trophies and showing how strong and far they can go,” Messi concluded.
