Poland international, Lewandowski, has scored his 43rd Bundesliga goal of the year to put the icing on the cake in a 4-0 win for Bayern over Wolfsburg, and cover up the previous best mark for goals in a calendar year set in 1972 by “Der Bomber.”

Against their fellow German side, Lewandowski was able to score his 69th goal in the 2021 calendar year, and equalled legendary player Cristiano Ronaldo’s record set in 2013. While the Argentine captain Lionel Messi holds the overall record of 91 goals set in 2012.

The prolific striker Lewandowski, who broke GERD Müller’s old record for goals in a season(last season) by scoring his 41st last May in the last minute of a 5-2 win over Augsburg, again left it late to score on Friday.

The striker was able to reach his fellow teammates Jamal Musiala’s cross acrobatically to grab the record in the 87th minute.

Famous German player Thomas Müller – though has no relation to Gerd – was able to celebrate his 400th Bundesliga game by scoring a goal and also setting up another to help Bayern open a nine-point lead before the rest of the 17th round. Dayot Upamecano and Leroy Sané also scored.

Thomas Müller got Bayern in front within just seven minutes when he was opportuned to tap home the rebound after Koen Casteels stopped Serge Gnabry’s effort from range.

Wolfsburg player Wout Weghorst almost replied immediately at the other end but Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was equal to the Dutch forward’s shot. The player was able to have another chance later despite Bayern’s domination of possession.

Robert Lewandowski came close to scoring with a header that wasn’t even a trouble for Casteels to save, but Bayern emerged with renewed vigor against the deep-sitting visitors after the break.

Thomas Müller was able to set up Upamecano for the team’s second goal in the 57th, just three minutes before the German winger Sané scored with a fine strike.

Another German winger Serge Gnabry did his best to set up the Polish striker and captain Lewandowski, who fired over and was then thwarted by Casteels.

When it all seems very likely that he’s just have to just share the record with Bayern Munich and Germany legend Gerd Müller, Lewandowski scored to claim it for himself.

The Poland captain has been able to score 18 times in the already this season – one more than the whole Wolfsburgs players was able to – and has scored 23 goals in 20 previous Bundesliga games against that Wolfsburg side – more than against any other team he had played against in the Bundesliga fixture.

Wolfsburg’s in form situation and defeats has been stretched to seven games in all competitions without a win, which will probably be a bothering factor to the manager and executives.
